Offline-Decryption Utility

Passfindr understands that internet service may be lost for a period of time or that some unforeseen vulnerability may take down a server. Because Passfindr does more than act as a password manager, bookmark manager, personal information manager, and because we know many of our users store large quantities of there personal information, personal notes, and all types of personal data and are effectively using Passfindr as a personal search engine, even when they are not accessing a website, we must be prepared to provide access 24/7 to their sensitive data whether there is a problem or not.

Passfindr provides an Offline-Decryption Utility that can read the data from your back up file which should be stored both locally and in a secure off-site location as well. Passfindr makes periodic backup of your data incredibly easy (see: Making a Backup Copy). With the Offline-Decryption Utility tool you must still enter your Master Password for access to your bookmarks/data because this is still a security issue and priority however, you do not need internet access for decryption and data display to occur.

If Passfindr detects an offline condition, Passfindr shows the offline page and a link to the Offline-Decryption Utility. This page is fully functional in offline mode. Follow the steps outlined on the page. Decrypting bookmarks is not possible without having a recent backup copy of your bookmarks. We recommend that you create a backup copy periodically and keep the files in a save place. The backup copy is a JSON formatted text file.

While a lecture on the importance of backing up data should not be necessary in these days and times, it is important to note that Passfindr has gone to great lengths to make backing up your data unbelievably easy and requiring almost no meaningful time regardless of how much data you have stored. And it is important to note that the Offline-Decryption Utility cannot access your data if there is no data to retrieve. So, please backup your data from time to time or ANYTIME you have added important data to your Passfindr account.
