general

Passfindr helps you keep all your valuable information organized. Passfindr stores your ideas, notes, sensitive data like Wi-Fi keys, bank account information, even login information in one place with the highest level of security. You'll find your information again like you would search the web with a search engine. Passfindr is your own Personal Knowledge Base, Bookmark manager, Password manager, Zettelkasten, Note taker, Web Publisher, and a lot more. Passfindr has all the tools.
A password manager assists you in generating and retrieving complex passwords, storing such passwords encrypted, along with related information, in a database. A bookmark manager assists you in retrieving and accessing web addresses (URL), storing such addresses along with related information in a database. Passfindr is both a password manager and a bookmark manager. Passfindr lets you manage your passwords, web addresses, mail addresses, notes, credit card and phone numbers or any text-based information securely and find it all extremely fast. Passfindr is versatile and works with all browsers on all your devices.
We all have too many login credentials, access keys, and other sensitive information to manage - and we like reusing the same passwords over and over. Passfindr helps you maintain strong individual passwords for all your web accounts and keep your sensitive text based information secure. Passfindr can generate strong passwords and remind you to update your passwords or to visit a web site periodically.

Here are some important password rules:

  • Use strong passwords following strict policies.
  • Never use the same password for different accounts.
  • Never share passwords and login information with others.
  • Never write down passwords.
  • Change passwords periodically.
  • Do not allow your browsers to save passwords.
  • Use incognito/private browsing when accessing the internet from a unknown computer/mobile device.
  • Lock the screen and password protect your computer/mobile device when not in use.
Using the full feature set is free of charge. However, Passfindr appreciates your donation to ensure the operation, security and further development of Passfindr.

Yes, if you can remember them. Practically, you should use the same Master Password to encrypt all of your sensitive items. Since the Master Password must not be easy to guess, keeping track of many different Master Passwords is probably impractical. We recommend you use only one Master Password which is more than 12 characters in length and, beside alphanumeric, also contains special characters.

data protection

Our web hosting provider is based in Switzerland. The data centers of partner companies are certified to the internationally recognized information security standard ISO 27001 and all operations comply with Switzerland's Federal Act on Data Protection.

Your data is regularly mirrored and backed up in a second data center. This increases data security and reduces downtime in an emergency.
Passfindr secures your content with the Advanced Encryption Standard AES-256 in GCM mode with a 256-bit key. Each time you encrypt your sensitive data, the encryption key is generated from a one-way salted hash and your Master Password. This means that each of your encrypted sensitive data is secured with an individual and locally generated key. Your Master Password never leaves your web browser. Passfindr generates the encryption key using the PBKDF2-SHA256 password based key derivation function.

Encrypted data is then transmitted over a TLS secured internet connection and stored on Passfindr's back end storage.

For more detailed information, please also consult our Knowledge Base.
Passfindr provides an Offline-Decryption Utility that can read the data from your back up file. It works the same way as you would be online. Learn more about the Offline-Decryption Utility on our feature page.
Many password managers have a form autofill feature built-in. This comes with a huge drawback: form autofill works only with browser plug-ins and extensions and with native applications. Mobile web browsers do not support plug-ins and extensions, so it won't work on mobile devices unless you have an application installed. Also, more and more web sites encourage users to use two-factor authentication, also known as 2FA, which breaks the autofill and auto-login process. We like to keep things as SIMPLE and SAFE as possible: no plug-ins, extensions and applications to download, install and maintain on each of your and your family's devices. This saves you a lot of time and hassle AND increases your security. Just simply copy and paste your password.
